Learn mindfulness in Colchester, Essex and Suffolk with Paths to Peace

Paths to Peace offers a number of different options to learn mindfulness – in a group setting as part of an eight week course, or 1:1 following either the eight week course or tailor made sessions (possibly integrated with other Paths to Peace approaches), in schools as part of the .b programme, or in your place of work as a stress reduction and wellbeing enhancement programme. Click on the mindfulness sub headings for further information on each.

Life is a series of moments.  Are you savouring yours?

Mindfulness meditationMindfulness enables us to live a fuller, richer life, teaching us to awaken to the fullness of our experiences and personal encounters and to develop the skill of paying close attention to the way in which we habitually think and react.

Much of our lives are spent in the doing mode – an endless sea of doing in order to achieve our goals. As such there is a danger that we spend large parts of our time functioning on automatic pilot, simply wading through the piles of things that need to be done, trotting out automatic reactions to particular events (be they emotional, physical or repeated modes of thinking) and barely stopping to notice the potential richness in our endeavours. Mindfulness teaches us to stop, to be present, to savour and to simply observe without judgement, giving us the space in which to choose wise responses to circumstances and experiences. As we learn that we needn’t be a slave to our thoughts, emotions and impulses, our ability to appreciate, adapt to change and to see our own selves more clearly and kindly widens, leading to happiness, contentment and greater wellbeing.

If you recognise in yourself constant striving and a need to achieve, ongoing feelings of stress, self-criticism, anger or low mood or regularly experience an inability to switch your mind off and relax, a dedicated mindfulness meditation practice could help bring about positive change. Mindfulness can also be helpful for anxiety, self esteem issues, dealing with chronic illness and/or chronic pain and dealing with emotional upheaval.
